26. The smell of books! [August 19]
I love this time of year. I must have annoyed my parents (and Parvati!) so much with my constant eagerness for new quills, parchment, books, schedules. Even on the other side of the desk, I still find myself going over lesson plans, even though I've been doing this long enough to have gotten what works and what doesn't. I still like to go over and change things up a little so that I don't get bored, getting rid of what just doesn't work (obviously tests and quizzes can't be included as those are very necessary), trying to make things more interesting. I love rearranging my class room.

Warded to Simon Capper:

And I love that I get to put a new photograph on my desk.

25. Warded to Parvati Patil [July 01]
Do you have a moment to chat? I'd rather in person. Only not really. I am not looking forward to this conversation.

24. Warded Private [June 30]
It's not good to keep things hidden. It's never good to keep them hidden, so why haven't I told anyone about Simon and I? I just have this awful feeling that everyone who thought badly of him will tell me that I have no right to complain if things go wrong. That I'll deserve to feel rotten if it does for going back.

But I can't help it. It's Simon, and I still love him. And oh blimey, the sex is

What am I going to do? The longer I wait to tell anyone, the more they're going to think I'm lying to them by not telling anyone.

23. Warded to RLA F/S [June 15]
Pointedly ignoring the parental bits, because I have no experience to speak of.

With the end of the year (and our last week of teacher work-days), I was thinking that maybe we could all have dinner some time this week? Or do a bit of a pot luck sort of luncheon one of the days this week?

Examinations are very nearly done, and tomorrow's the first celebration ceremony. It's so rewarding getting to watch students you've taught for five years take their place, and knowing that you had a hand in it. I hope that I've prepared them as much as I possibly could have, and that in the future, they'll remember Remus Lupin Academy as the place that helped them become the best they could. I'll miss Aaron, the first Head Boy for the school. I expect to see Morgan Smithers' one day soon on the stage.

I have to admit, though, that I am looking forward to the summer holidays. Even with the workshops and workdays, I'm looking forward to getting to spend more time with my books. It's been a long time since I've been able to just sit down with a new book and read it out in my garden.

Of course, I do hope we're having some sort of celebration after the ceremony tomorrow of our own!

21. Warded to RLA F/S & Aff [June 02]
Looks like I am going to be speaking at that conference in June. That means I'll be gone for a few days to Paris. I know, I can tell you're all groaning, "Oh Padma, how terrible for you! You get to eat all those lovely deserts and speak French and go to the Louvre. I'd hate that." Well, don't get too comfortable; I might find a way to drag one of your with me for every agonizing moment of it.

In more bizarre news, a Muggle asked me out this past weekend. It was just strange because I was simply in a shop looking for insoles for my loafers. How embarrassing is that? He looked familiar, but I couldn't place him. I get the feeling Parvati and I might have known him when we were younger. I don't know why, but I do. Maybe he was the son of one of our parents' friends?

Interesting.

One of my old Experimental Charms Committee colleagues asked me to sit in on one of her lectures in Paris in June. It sounds like it's going to be quite fun, in that completely Mensa nerdy way. Plus, Paris. I could justify a trip to Paris for that, I think. It's been a long while since I've been there.

19. Warded to RLA F/S & Affiliates [May 07]
Michael, your nephew is oh-so-charming. I think he winked at me.

Warded to Lisa Finnigan:

Hey, I know you're still mates with Simon, and I probably shouldn't put you in the middle like this, but I'm sort of... at a loss. Do you have a moment or two to spare?

18. Warded to RLA F/S & Affiliates [April 20]
Oh, I wish students remembered that professors don't like the first day of classes after a holiday either. It might just make things go by a little bit easier.

How was everyone's holiday?

Warded to Lisa Finnigan:

How'd the lecture go today? Lots of giggles and red faces?

Warded to Parvati Patil:

Don't be mad at me. I invited Simon over last week to have a look at the area. He was thinking of moving to Wales, and I wanted to show him the area I live in because it's adorable and relaxing. Nothing happened.

Warded Private:

Simon popped by last week, and it was... Well, honestly, it was a little awkward. At least at first. I think Puck could smell the moon on him or something, because he kept pawing at his lap and demanding to be pet. Even when I tossed him outside, he made it back inside through the cat flap before I was even back. The tour went all right... at least until he made some comment about how these towel racks were sturdier than the last ones. I had to leave the bathroom at that because I thought my face might burn off.

Being near him (as friends! as only friends!) is nice, though. I won't lie. I've really missed him.

17. A Little Embarrassed - Warded to RLA F/S & Aff [April 07]
Do you ever have those days where someone asks you a question, and you just pop off the first thing before you've even thought? I'm having one of those days. One of my students, Tony, came up to me this morning and tried to tell me that a dragon burnt his homework, and I snorted at him. Well, it was more of a, "An imaginary dragon flamed your imaginary homework, I take it." He just stared at me.

My head would like to say hello to my desk. So utterly ridiculous. Thank Merlin I have a planning period coming up soon. I feel like I should take a power nap in the lounge.
